Use it whenever needed to ensure your stacks remain in descending order, especially if the next up card is needed to make a long chain reaction or clear out a stack.Don’t be afraid to use the discard stack. Provided you lay strategically you can play for hours on end.You play the game until one of your card stacks on the tableau has more than 9 cards on it which do not merge into each other. As you progress through the game the score needed to reach incremental levels increases geometrically. The first level up happens at 500 points & unlocks the light button.Once you have merged your way to 20 card is removed from the tableau & any other cards that are in that same column are also removed.Whenever you create a 2048 any cards in the discard pile are cleared away & you have 2 discard credits again. The stack will appear brown if neither discard is in use, half red if one is used, and completely red if both are used.In the lower right there is a discard pile where you can discard up to 2 cards which are hard to lay.Your merges can set off a chain reaction. When 2 cards of the same value are laid atop each other they merge into a single card worth twice as much.Typically you want to lay cards in descending order so that they can merge into the above values via a chain reaction, though sometimes it is not easy to keep order.Cards may be laid on any of the stacks, without regard to the value of other cards on the stack.Periodically you are dealt a hammer card, which is a wildcard matching the value of the card on the bottom of any stack you lay it.Typically you are dealt cards of lower values more frequently than cards of higher values. This is a card-based version of 2048, where players have 4 columns to work with on the tableau. It is brown if both slots are open, half red if one slot is open, or completely red if both slots are used.
